"Stickies" - Stickies are threads that are considered to be important, or related to many commonly asked questions or frequently searched for material. They are normal threads that are "stuck" near the top of each section to make them easy to find. Some of the more important stickies are listed below: Leave Your Attitudes At the Door Special Rules Applicable To Posting in the "Member Buy, Sale & Trade" Forum The forum rules. Before each of you joined, you agreed to abide by them, but we take them pretty seriously around here, which is one of the reasons that we remain most members' favorite firearms forum. We run a tight and civil ship, insisting on civility. If you quickly breezed through the rules during registration, you may want to take a minute now and read them a little more thoroughly. Doing so will help make the forum more enjoyable for you and prevent any problems later. We have a number of staff on most times of the day, but we can't be everywhere at once and we have an growing number of threads and posts to keep up with, with limited staff. We try, but sometimes miss something that requires staff action. If you do encounter any rule violations, we encourage you to use the report post icon , please use this to also report duplicate threads, multiple threads on the exact same story and spam advertisements. Also, for our users that aren't overly familiar with this site, we would like to point out a link on the main blue navigation bar of the site, labeled Forum Help and Extras . This link, will take you to a page containing:
Regarding posting, there are several different text editing formats available that change the appearance of the font, these include Bold (The "B" tags), Italics (The "I" tags), and Underlining (The "U"tags) - all available at the top of a message window. Many other forums may allow the usage of different font sizes, styles, and colors, but we've found that threads and posts are easier to read when everyone uses a uniform text style. While the options that we do offer can be used throughout the entire text of a post, our members and staff would appreciate it if these options were only used when needed to show emphasis on the desired portions, or, only make bold what needs to be bold, and only underline what needs to be underlined. When combinations of all caps, all bold, all underlined are used in a post it detracts from the readability and most people will pass on by without reading it. All caps and bold text is considered by most to be "shouting", and thus rude in forum etiquette. Pictures posted in thread should be sized down so not to "stretch out" the forum format. 640x480 or close seems to be a good size for pictures and file compression ideally should be fairly strong to keep file size down, while maintaining good perceived quality -and so giving enough detail without having an effect on the page format. Adding a couple of blank lines between pictures will also help, visually as will use of paragraphs within text content. Another important point is that as this site continues to grow, we have collected a lot of information. If you have a general question you'd like to ask, you may want to consider utilizing the search tool prior to starting a new thread. Often, using the search tool will provide you with the answers to your questions or cause you to refine or alter your original question for more specific answers. We were all new to carrying once, though, and don't discourage our newer members from asking questions. Our knowledgeable members will almost always do their best to answer them appropriately. The search feature is linked in the blue navigation bar at the top of every page. There are, however, some topics that have no definitive answer and have been beaten to death here repeatedly and are better left un-revived . These include questions regarding the laughable CCW badges, the 9mm vs .45 caliber war, and the always heated 1911 vs Glock. There are a few more that will turn up if you search through some of the past threads. Normally, we be are diligent about notifying members when one of their threads is closed, heavily edited or deleted. But, occasionally, during a particularly busy time here, or due to other operations that also require our urgent attention, we slip up. If you did not get notified and have concerns, you are encouraged to Private Message (PM) one of our staff. We do however expect small edits done for obvious reasons (such as language workarounds) to not need PM'ing a member, hoping they might realize and remember our rules! If you experience any problems or difficulties on the forum, we encourage you to Private Message (PM) our staff. Some are assigned to specific forums and sub-forums, others simply go where needed. For a list of staff and their respective areas of concern see HERE. If immediate assistance is needed feel free to contact any moderator that is currently on-line. Staff names are color coded in the "Who's Online" area at the bottom of the front of the forum. And, finally, a very important point, if you have any grievances with the actions of the staff, it is best handled privately rather than open forum. A simple PM is usually all it takes, as answering questions and concerns regarding the forum is part of our job. I would ask you to remember that our staff are all volunteers and spend hundreds of hours "on the job" here every week. Civility and respect, the trademark of this forum, is expected in communications with our staff, just as it is with our other members. Getting an attitude in communications with staff either privately or in open forum will rarely get your concern addressed satisfactorily and will often jeopardize your membership. |
